3 Minute Read:
Body contouring consists of a series of surgical procedures that produce results difficult or impossible to achieve without surgical intervention. These procedures remove unwanted skin and fat and tighten areas of lax skin and muscle.
Unlike diet and exercise, these procedures offer direct intervention by removing unwanted tissue and enhancing what remains. While diet and exercise are essential lifestyle choices, even the most active and healthy person can find themselves struggling with stubborn fat or sagging skin.
Surgical body contouring can roll back the clock and restore the appearance of youth and healthy physiques.
Why Should I Choose Body Contouring?
1. Trims Excess Skin
Loose, hanging skin can develop across the areas in response to aging, pregnancy, and weight loss.
While there are non-surgical treatments that claim to tighten skin, none can physically remove excess skin.
Excess skin may be removed as part of tummy tuck surgery, body lift surgery, or butt lift surgery. These procedures remove hanging flaps of loose skin, removing wrinkles caused by the sagging, and allowing the remaining skin to appear younger and stronger.
Surgery is the only way to remove large amounts of excess skin that may negatively affect a patient’s social life, mental well-being, and physical health.
2. Removes Stubborn Fat Deposits
No matter how much you exercise, there are areas of the body where fat just won’t leave. These fat deposits can cause significant distress to patients who eat healthily, exercise regularly, and do everything right.
Fortunately, liposuction is a common addition to most body contouring operations and removes unwanted fat deposits. Liposuction is not designed to cause significant weight loss, but rather to remove small areas of fat from an otherwise healthy patient.
The fat extracted via liposuction may be used for a fat grafting procedure or may be discarded.
3. Tightens Weakened Abdominal Muscles
Muscle tightening is another element that can only be accomplished via a body contouring procedure.
During periods of excessive weight gain or pregnancy, abdominal muscles can be physically separated. This causes unwanted skin pockets and an abdominal bulge that cannot be tightened without surgery.
If left untreated, the rectus (abdominal) muscles will remain separated for the rest of a patient’s life. Fortunately, a tummy tuck tightens and reknits these separated muscles, restoring strength and tone to the abdomen.
4. Provides More Transformative Results
While non-surgical body contouring can minimize fat pockets and maybe provide some skin tightening, it cannot achieve the same level of skin and fat reduction possible with surgical treatments.
Surgical treatments may be more invasive; however, this invasiveness is needed to manipulate the tissues to create real, lasting results.
It comes down to a choice. Would you rather have minimal downtime and good results, or a slightly longer recovery period but wholly transformative results?
