Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenation treatment that removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, leaving you with refreshed, younger skin. Microdermabrasion is a gentler procedure relative to dermabrasion, which is the same process of “skin planing” that uses devices like wire brushes or salt crystals to wear away the upper and mid layers of skin.
In the experienced hands of a practitioner like Dr. Troy Andreasen, microdermabrasion can stimulate new production of skin cells and collagen. The procedure requires the use of an abrasion tool to exfoliate the skin. The device is a pump that gently sprays a stream of crystals such as aluminum oxide, sodium chloride, magnesium oxide or sodium bicarbonate. There is no downtime, and the procedure may last anywhere from five minutes to an hour.
