With age comes the loss of collagen to the face, wrinkles, and other skin problems that can occur. When collagen production begins to decline, this can result in loose and uneven skin, making your face appear tired and older than you actually are. Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical treatment that gently removes the thicker, rough outer layer of the skin to help stimulate the production of collagen for a smoother, healthier, and younger-looking complexion.
Issues Treated
Microdermabrasion is performed much like a fine sandblaster across the face, as it removes excess skin and refines the top layer of your skin. Because this treatment removes damaged skin and stimulates new and healthy skin growth, microdermabrasion can also correct many facial impurities, including:

Process
Microdermabrasion is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require the use of anesthesia. A small handheld jet will be used to spray microparticles (mineral crystals) across the outer layer of the skin to exfoliate your face. Once the crystals have exfoliated the surface of your skin, they will be suctioned back into the jet using a vacuum that is attached to the machine. Dead or loose skin cells will also be removed to reveal smoother skin below. You may experience a scratching sensation during your procedure, but this is normal.
Recovery Time
Following your treatment, you may request to have a surgical mask or a light facial massage. Microdermabrasion requires no downtime or recovery period, and you can return home immediately after your procedure. Some bruising, swelling, and redness may occur but will subside after a few hours. Your skin may also experience some flaking and dryness for one week.
Because your skin will be prone to sensitivity, make sure to use plenty of sunblock to protect your face from the sun’s harmful rays. Some patients may be given a special moisturizer or facial products to enhance their results. Microdermabrasion is not effective for patients who are struggling with cases of deep scarring or severe pigmentation irregularities.
Number of Procedures
Your microdermabrasion treatment will leave your face feeling new and refreshed with long-lasting results. Patients can often undergo two treatment sessions every month, depending on their desired results and skin type.
