Planning Your Mommy Makeover

Having children is an incredibly rewarding experience for many women. However, it can be challenging to deal with the changes you see in your body after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Many women post-pregnancy deal with sagging, deflated breasts and excess skin and fat on their stomachs. Mommy Makeover surgery is designed and customized to restore and enhance your body after pregnancy. A Mommy Makeover typically includes a breast procedure, tummy tuck, and liposuction to enhance the areas most affected after the childbearing process.

How Long Should You Wait to Get a Mommy Makeover?

Some women may be eager to get a Mommy Makeover as soon as possible. It is important to note that you must wait a minimum of six months after giving birth to get Mommy Makeover surgery. Some surgeons even recommend waiting at least one year or longer. This is because hormonal changes still occur in the body after pregnancy, which often cause weight fluctuations and other changes in appearance.

Factors to Consider When Planning a Mommy Makeover

Once you’ve waited at least six months after childbirth, you’ll need to consider some key factors to determine the best time for your Mommy Makeover. The best age for your Mommy Makeover will depend on your personal life circumstances, so the right time will vary from patient to patient.

Future Pregnancies

Many surgeons will recommend that women are done building their families before getting a Mommy Makeover. This is because subsequent pregnancies can alter, or even completely reverse, your Mommy Makeover results. To ensure the best, long-lasting results, waiting until you are done having children is typically the best time for this procedure.

Childcare

If your children are still very young and require a lot of care, you’ll need to think about how this will affect your Mommy Makeover timeline. For those who want to get their procedure soon, you’ll want to consider having a spouse, relative, or babysitter take over childcare responsibilities not only on the day of your procedure but also during your recovery period. Mommy Makeover recovery typically takes a minimum of six weeks, depending on the techniques involved, and you won’t be able to lift anything heavy for a while. If obtaining childcare for the recovery period is a concern, some women may wait until their children are older before getting their procedure.

Work Flexibility

When thinking about Mommy Makeover recovery, you’ll need to plan to take off work for at least two weeks. Consider how flexible your job is and if you’ll be able to take off this time for recovery, as well as days off for the consultation and procedure itself.

Financial Costs

Cost can be a significant factor when you decide to have your Mommy Makeover. Consider how much money you have saved up and how much you can realistically spend monthly on a payment plan. We offer the CareCredit® card as a financing option to help patients plan their payments.
