If you are frustrated with excess skin and stomach fat, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. There are three main types of tummy tucks, and the best one for you will depend on your body, how much correction is needed, and your goals for surgery. This blog discusses your tummy tuck options and which will work best for each body type.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Since we’re all the main characters in our life stories, we all want to be viewed as resilient and strong. For many, the stomach is a body area that visually reveals when you’re stressed. It can be frustrating to dislike how your body looks, whether because of stubborn fat creating a protruding belly or excess sagging skin hiding your figure. It can be even more challenging to deal with once you’ve dedicated time and effort to exercise and eat a healthy diet but are still not seeing the results you want. Especially since excess skin cannot be removed by losing weight, and losing more weight will only increase the amount of loose, sagging skin you have.

Whether you’re struggling with your post-pregnancy stomach, have recently undergone significant weight loss, or have always had difficulty with stubborn pockets of fat in the stomach, tummy tuck surgery can help. A tummy tuck can eliminate excess skin and fat from the abdomen, transforming your abdominal contours and defining the waistline.

There are three main types of tummy tucks, each with their own advantages. During a consultation, your body will be evaluated to determine if you’re a candidate for the procedure and which tummy tuck option will work best for your goals.

Which Type of Tummy Tuck Should You Get?

The best type of tummy tuck will vary depending on your anatomy, the extent of correction needed, and your desired outcome.

Mini Tummy Tuck

If you only have minimal excess skin and fat concentrated in the lower stomach, then a mini tummy tuck may be a good option. The mini tummy tuck treats the stomach area below the belly button and above the pubic area. After pregnancy, many women develop an abdominal pooch and struggle to lose stubborn fat in the lower stomach.

A mini tummy tuck can remove excess mat and skin in the lower belly, eliminating the appearance of a stomach pooch and leaving you with a more defined stomach. Many people gravitate towards the mini tummy tuck because it leaves the least scarring out of all the tummy tuck options.

Standard Tummy Tuck

Many people view the standard tummy tuck approach as the traditional tummy tuck approach. This option may be a good fit for you if you have a moderate amount of excess skin and fat in the abdomen. During a standard tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles are tightened, excess skin is trimmed, the remaining skin is tightened, and the belly button is repositioned to complement the new appearance of the stomach. The incisions for the standard tummy tuck are longer than the ones for a mini tummy tuck; however, the standard tummy tuck can treat a larger area.

Extended Tummy Tuck

When you have undergone significant weight loss and have a lot of excess abdominal skin, the extended tummy tuck may be the best option. The extended tummy tuck requires the longest incisions, so it is able to provide the most correction. For the extended tummy tuck, the incisions will go along the lower pubic area (similar to other tummy tucks), but they will also go around the hips.
