What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Lift Surgery?

Removes Excess Fat

Excess fat and skin in the upper eyelid can cause a saggy, tired, or sad appearance. Excess fat around the eyes can also make your eyes seem puffy, which can be unflattering. Eyelid lift surgery will remove the excess skin and fat to restore a more vibrant facial look.

Tightens the Skin

Drooping or laxity of the lower eyelid makes the white portion (sclera) of the bottom of the eye visible and produces a tired appearance. Tightening the lower eyelid area will correct the droopiness of the eyelid. When the excess fat is removed and tightened, the eye is opened up and becomes a more attractive feature that stands out on your face.

What Are the Eyelid Lift Surgery Techniques?

Depending on your specific needs and conditions, one of these three techniques will be determined during your consultation.

Concerns About Eyelid Lift Surgery

Recovery

Directly after your procedure, lubricating ointment or a cold cloth may be applied to the incision areas, and in some cases, a light gauze material will be wrapped over your eyes to protect from outside factors that can interfere with the healing process. You may experience swelling and bruising that can persist for a couple of weeks. You may also feel mild itchiness, dryness, and discomfort in your eyes that can be minimized with ointment cream or medication.

Scars

Scarring will depend on the techniques used during your surgery. A lower eyelid lift that makes an incision right below the lower lash line could result in a minor scar that will fade over time and with proper care.
If the procedure is removing excess skin directly from the lower eyelid, then a scar is not usually visible.

Cost

The average cost of cosmetic eyelid surgery is $3,163 according to 2018 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This price may vary due to factors such as the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fees, techniques that were used, and hospital fees. Your surgeon will provide you with an accurate estimate during your consultation.

Financing options are also available.

Pain

Most patients experience minor to moderate pain and swelling following this procedure. You may experience bruising or swelling of the eye area for a few days. If pain and discomfort persist, it can be managed with prescription medication provided by your surgeon.
