What Can BOTOX® Cosmetic Be Used for?
Wrinkles on the Forehead
Along with natural aging, repeated brow movements can cause wrinkles and fine lines to develop across the forehead. Not only are these unwanted physical signs that you are aging, but they are also impossible to conceal under makeup. BOTOX® Cosmetic works to relax the muscles that cause forehead wrinkles, resulting in smoother, more youthful skin.
Frown Lines Between the Brows
The unwanted signs of aging are not limited to only wrinkles. Glabellar lines, or frown lines, are furrows between the brows that can be permanently etched in the skin. The appearance of frown lines can age you and make you look angry. This injectable helps smooth out the vertical lines between the eyes and rejuvenate your upper face.
Crow's Feet
Crow’s feet develop and extend from the outer corners of the eyes. These unwanted lines can be caused by repeated facial movements like laughing and squinting and are typically the first sign of natural aging. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can temporarily smooth out these wrinkles and rejuvenate your facial features.
Concerns in the Lower Face & Neck
In addition to addressing the more common signs of aging in the upper face, BOTOX® Cosmetic can also do the following:
- Reduce skin dimpling on the chin
- Lift the corners of the mouth
- Correct a gummy smile
- Soften a square jawline
- Diminish neck bands
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Process
Your BOTOX® Consultation
During your consultation, your BOTOX® Cosmetic injector will assess your facial anatomy to determine the amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic required and the best placement for your injections.
In addition, you will discuss your surgical goals, your general health status, and additional facial rejuvenation procedures that can be combined with BOTOX® if you have other concerns.
How Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Injected?
Before your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, a numbing cream may be applied to the treated area to ease any discomfort. A thin needle will be used to inject botulinum toxin into the targeted muscles, which blocks chemical signals from the nerves that cause muscles to contract. The muscles then relax, allowing the wrinkles and fine lines to smooth.
Commonly Combined Treatments
BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly combined with other non-surgical treatments to address different signs of aging:
- JUVÉDERM® dermal filler—Smooths out wrinkles and fine lines while hydrating and plumping the skin to restore volume.
- Rejuvenation Chemical Peel—Reduces skin issues like acne, acne scars, sun damage, and melasma.
Concerns
Recovery
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment. Therefore, you can expect little to no downtime after the injections. During your healing process, it is important to avoid touching or rubbing (massaging) the treatment areas. Patients should also avoid high-intensity sports for at least 24 hours following the treatment as this may cause swelling and bruising; however, you can return to your normal activities right away.
Scars
BOTOX® Cosmetic uses a fine needle to inject the product. No scars are left behind, and the skin heals fast.
Cost
BOTOX® Cosmetic is priced per unit. Therefore, the total cost of your treatment will depend on the extent of the product needed and the number of areas that you hope to treat.
Pain
BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are generally painless. Minor swelling, bruising, and redness might occur but will dissipate within a few days.
