Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation might be right for you if:
- You desire larger breasts
- You desire more proportionate breasts
- Your breasts have lost volume due to pregnancy or significant weight loss
- You are unhappy with the shape or volume of your breasts
- You want to achieve a more youthful look following childbirth, aging, or lack of breast growth
How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia, with patients returning home from the treatment center the same day. The two most common incisions used are the inframammary incision or periareolar incision. The inframammary incision is made along the breast crease, whereas the periareolar incision is created around the areola to blend in with the areola’s natural colorings.
Your chosen implant (silicone or saline) will be inserted through this incision into a prepared breast pocket. The implant is situated, and the incisions are closed.
If breast augmentation is performed to correct a problem with an existing implant (breast implant revision), our surgeon will follow the previous incision line to reduce post-operative scarring. Breast augmentation can be performed alone or in combination with a breast lift.
What Is My Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?
Most patients are fully recovered within five to six weeks.
During the first week, you will experience swelling and mild discomfort at the surgical site. A special post-operative bra will help to reduce this. You will also be asked to sleep on your back and avoid any strenuous activities that could extend your healing process.
The incisions will heal, and the breast implants will settle into position within the next three to six months.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation in Riverside
Are breast implants safe?
All surgical procedures involve a level of risk. Still, breast implants are very safe, given the right board-certified surgeon and technique. Most side effects and complications are rare and temporary (such as bruising, bleeding, infection, and sensation changes).
How big will my breasts be after breast augmentation?
The size of your breasts after augmentation will depend on your implant selection. Dr. Andreasen will help you choose a size that is flattering to your figure and proportionate to your body.
Can I have children after breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation doesn’t affect your ability to have a healthy pregnancy, although breast augmentation may have a slight effect on the amount of breast milk you can produce afterward. Additionally, pregnancy and breastfeeding will likely alter the results of your breast augmentation, and many women are suggested to postpone their augmentation if they are planning on becoming pregnant in the near future.
