Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Those considering liposuction should be in good overall health, be nonsmokers or willing to quit smoking, and have reasonable expectations for the procedure. Other factors that may make you a good candidate for liposuction include:
- Being at or near your goal weight
- Have good skin elasticity
- Want to remove stubborn pockets of fat
- Want to tone specific body areas

Planning Your Liposuction Procedure
Establishing Your Goals
Choosing to undergo liposuction surgery should be done for your own personal reasons. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and should only be undergone if you are within 30 pounds of your goal weight. Having photo references for your ideal body shape and proportions is beneficial for helping determine the type and extent of liposuction you require. Having a vision of your goal appearance will help translate your wants and needs to Dr. Andreasen during your consultation.
Your Liposuction Consultation
Dr. Andreasen is a leader in body contouring in the Inland Empire. Your consultation is an important step on your liposuction journey because good results are achieved with good candidates. During your consultation, you will discuss your medical history, and Dr. Andreasen will evaluate your skin’s elasticity. Together, you will determine your desired treatment areas and consider which contouring technique will best provide you with the results you want.
Creating Your Ideal Look
Liposuction alone can give many men and women the look they want. However, skin laxity can develop after pregnancy, following weight loss, or as you age, which may impact the quality of your liposuction results. Body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift may be combined with your liposuction to provide you with a more toned and firm body shape. Our goal is to always maintain natural, balanced results that enhance your physique.
What Are My Liposuction Options?
Process
- Traditional Liposuction – Tumescent fluid breaks up fat, and a cannula is used to vacuum suction out the fatty tissue.
- Sculpts your treatment area to enhance definition or create a slimmer shape
- Gentle enough to be used around the face, but best results are achieved in areas with greater tissue thickness
- Ultrasound or Laser-Assisted Liposuction – Ultrasound or laser attachments are added to the cannula to help loosen fat for easier fat removal.
- Promotes skin shrinkage, helping you achieve a firmer contour
- Allows for more precise fat targeting and removal
Upper Body Contour
- Neck – Eliminates the appearance of an unwanted double chin and enhances jawline definition
- Arms – Creates a slimmer and more toned upper arm appearance
- Chest/breasts – Treats the appearance of breasts in men or can be used for a minor breast reduction in women
Mid-Body Contouring
The placement of your implants can impact the overall shape and profile of your augmented breasts.
- Abdomen – Enhances and tones the belly
- Love handles – Reduces the appearance of love handles for a more slender waist
- Hips – Sculpts for attractive curves
- Back – Treat bra-fat folds for a smoother back appearance
Lower Body Contouring
The placement of your implants can impact the overall shape and profile of your augmented breasts.
- Thighs – Slims the thighs, improving saddle bags and creating a slight thigh gap
- Calves – Creates a more sculpted leg shape
- Ankles – Slims the ankle for better definition
What Are Your Concerns?
What Is Liposuction Recovery Like?
You will experience bruising and swelling after your surgery. A compression garment is worn throughout your recovery, and you will be required to rest for several days following your procedure. Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks. You should be able to resume your regular exercise routine after one month. Your treatment area(s) may feel tender for several weeks, but excess swelling should subside after six weeks.
When Will I See My Liposuction Results?
After your surgery, you’ll see some of the improvements made to your selected treatment area. However, swelling will initially obscure your full results, typically for at least a few months. Many patients are able to see their final liposuction results around six months to a year after their surgery.
Fat will not grow back in the areas where it was removed during the procedure; however, you will still be able to gain fat in other body areas. To learn more about liposuction results, read our blog, Can Fat Come Back After Liposuction?
How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
The cost of your liposuction will vary depending on a number of factors. The extent of correction, surgical fees, facility fees, and anesthesia fees will all affect the final cost of your liposuction. Dr. Andreasen will provide a detailed quote during your consultation. Financing options are available to qualifying patients.
What Procedures Can Be Combined With Liposuction?
Some patients may be interested in improving more than one body area at once and possibly eliminating excess skin as well. If that is the case, combination procedures may be an option for you. Other procedures that can often be performed with liposuction include:
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I have liposuction if I have skin laxity?
Liposuction alone won’t treat your skin laxity. Dr. Andreasen may recommend an additional body contouring procedure (such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, etc.) to combine with your liposuction so you can achieve the best results.
-
Do you lose sensation around your liposuction treatment area?
There may be a temporary loss of sensation at or around your liposuction treatment area. This is only temporary.
-
What are the complications associated with liposuction surgery?
As with any surgery, bleeding and infection are the most common risks. While rare, other complications can include seromas, dimpling, and dents.
-
Is liposuction painful?
General anesthesia is used during your surgery to ensure patient safety and comfort. You may feel discomfort following your procedure as your body recovers. Oral pain medication is prescribed to help control postoperative discomfort.
-
Will I have scars after liposuction?
The visibility of your scarring will depend on incision placement and your body’s natural healing ability. Dr. Andreasen uses incision techniques to help minimize scar development. Most scarring is inconspicuous and will fade over time.
